Social Fabric was created for Colony’s 2021 JOIN, a group show. Takeda says, “When the word ‘join’ was suggested as a theme for the show, my first thought was of a positive, peaceful movement. However, when diverse elements come together, tension and conflict often occur, and unity is not certain. In this piece, I sought to capture these tensions and tendencies by joining the traditional weaving structure called overshot with improvisational weaving to break with tradition and create something present.” Composition and dimensions by commission.
