Vonnegut/Kraft has a way with curves. Since the studio's inception, Brian Kraft and Katrina Vonnegut have created pieces that combine traditionally masculine and feminine typologies for an aesthetic that transcends trends. Such is true about the Bombora Credenza, solid and sinewy, a symphony of curves and volumes, the Bombora is the apex of Brian's skill and Katrina's design ingenuity. With an unfilled travertine top, and oak body and brushed brass pulls Bombora in its standard finishes can seamlessly live in a plethora of interiors as an elevated and functional accent piece.

The playful aesthetic we’ve come to expect from Marmar Studio is on full display in their latest creation, the Jot Cabinet. Made with charming inlays of contrasting wood species, the design explores flatness and dimensionality through wrapping along intersecting planes. The effect is a  shift in pattern which creates an ever dynamic constellation. 

Founder Ingemar Hagen Keith’s design practice concentrates on the relationship between minimalism and familiarity, “The inspiration for the Jot Cabinet came about from a pair of pants I sewed using a deadstock Marimekko textile. When I cut from the fabric and assembled the pants, the original pattern of the textile was entirely reconfigured. Observing where lines serendipitously intersected and diverged, I was taken by the ways the flat graphic disrupted and enhanced the form. I am guided by the ethos of creating objects that have an innate sense of animation. The Jot Cabinet is a continuation of my recent works that have explored furniture objects that endear their users.”

To Thomas Yang, craft and care are synonymous terms. This deeply felt philosophy, alongside a reverence for material and everyday use, informs his fine-tuned practice. In the tradition of sashimono, a Japanese style of wood joinery, the designer utilizes both simple and complex joints in lieu of nails. Intrinsically a cultural homage, Cabinet of Memories is also an externalized reminiscence. Within his take on a traditional East-Asian cabinet, is a devotion to daily objects evidenced by drawers and doors of unexpected and varying sizes as well as splines to display beloved texts. 

Echoes of Yang’s childhood lingered in the cabinet’s construction, “My family home was filled with Ming dynasty cabinets with different lacquers, door handles, hinges, and drawers. Creating this cabinet was about materializing the essence of nostalgia through secret drawers, in musing on the drawers my parents kept their valuables in. I imbued my book spline design on the cabinet as an ode to those authors and artists who inspire me and who I am always returning to. It’s built with the hope it will become nostalgic for those who have it in their life: everchanging, a space to hold pre-existing artifacts.”
