Founded in 2013 by Otis Ingrams, OTZI is a London-based design studio not only prioritizing heritage, but moving it forward. Natural materials are honed by a team of artisans into forms that honor the trees, forests and fields they once inhabited. Traditional saddlery and leatherwork inform modern technique to create meticulously-crafted objects brimming with integrity.
Otis speaks to OTZI’s materials, saying “leather has such a richness, depth and timelessness because it is one our oldest materials; it has traveled and lived with us as people since almost the start of our journey on earth. It reflects our lives through wear and patina in a way similar to wood and as such we pair it with timber on many of our pieces. It wants to be lived with and used, over the years you only grow to love it more.”
Here we’ve highlighted the Mochi Easy chair, an armless lounge which holds its own alone or in a pair. Leather strapping slots through the Mochi’s backrest, harmonizing a relationship between wood and leather which speaks to the entirety of OTZI’s collection. Cording wraps the seat frame to support plush cushions upholstered in either heavyweight linen, vegetable-tanned leather or shearling. Like every piece of furniture made by OTZI’s artisans, the Mochi Easy Chair is meant to be lived with.
