Led by modern dancer-turned-designer John Sorensen-Jolink, Coil + Drift was founded in 2016. Based in New York’s Catskill Mountains, the studio works with a wide range of materials, including brass, sand-cast metal, hand-blown glass, and sustainably-sourced domestic hardwoods, shaped into forms that feel simultaneously sculptural and deliberate. Coil + Drift sees design as the process of choreographing objects and space; making objects with material honesty, curiosity, and a deep spatial sensitivity. Every piece is created by their team of in-house artisans and local craftspeople.
“John has created something truly special and lasting with Coil + Drift. Over the many years I’ve known him, I have watched him consistently, tenaciously, and poetically push his studio into new creative territory. It’s my honor to welcome Coil + Drift into the permanent Colony roster.” – Jean Lin
