Designer Sarah Sherman Samuel has an uncanny ability to create work that's both timely and lasting and her SSS Atelier pieces are crafted in West Michigan, close enough to her studio and office that she's able to keep a constant eye on prototyping and production. The line's latest release is the Gambit table, a checkerboard pattern rendered in contrasting stone that is as precise as it is inviting.
"In my work I enjoy the play with tension. The interest that builds when combining both old and new, light and heavy or raw and refined for example," says Sarah, expanding upon the point. "There is that tension in the Gambit table first, within its blend of a postmodern inspired silhouette with classic materials and second, in how the opposing colored marble slabs are fused together to create a singular monolithic form where at a glance the weight of the stone is suspended just above the floor."
